A New Dawn (Episode 7)

Episode 7

‘Good afternoon Sir ‘ Dorothy greets the secretary at the proprietress’ office and he directed her to wait while he calls the school owner. She was asked to go into the office while she told Mr Ajenifuja to wait for her.

As she enters the office she notices a person lie down on the bed in the office, she greets the proprietress and she was asked to take her seat. The woman asked Dorothy so many questions framing from when last she treated her kids of malaria or if they had any terminal illness the school doesn’t know of. She kept shaking her head and saying no. ‘Mrs Solomon, that’s your daughter lying down there, Shola has been crying of stomach pain during their break time and we asked what she ate and she said she bought a food from the food seller a street before the school.

At first we thought it was food poisoning, we’ve given her a first aid but we’re advising you take her to the hospital cause it seems serious than we think it might be’ ,the proprietress said. She thanked the proprietress and carried Shola who lay on the bed in the office. She took her out and asked that Fiyin be informed of what happened and should go home when the school closes. She carried her to Mr Ajenifujas car so they could go home.

Dorothy had been going to work late because she had to stay behind to monitor Shola especially when taking her medications. She was diagnosed of ulcer by the nurse that stays a room next to theirs. At least that didn’t cost her a lot of money, she made sure Shola eats on time and takes her medicine and she’s been feeling better but not totally healed, she couldn’t afford the hospital bills.

She told her husband about it and it was really obvious he doesn’t care because all he said was “sorry”. How on earth did she end up with a beast, ‘oh Jesus please help me’, she thought. If not for Kola(Mr AJenifuja) who had been helping her financially what would she had done. Even at that she already told him she was going to return his money back to him just to erase the guilt she feels in her heart.

Dorothy got home one day only to find Shola complaining of stomach ache again. She was already thankful and grateful to God for healing her daughter. ‘I have given her anointing oil to lick but the pain is not going,i was just about giving her aporo’,said Fiyin.

‘Thank you Fiyin, we will have to go and see aunty Nurse again’ said Dorothy. ‘Mum, I think we should take her to the hospital, all this self medication I don’t like it oh’,said Fiyin. She eyed her daughter, if there was money she would have done the needful but the trouble that not having money put one in is always so difficult. ‘Mum I think I want to vomit’,said Shola. She quickly brought out a bowl for her to vomit in and the fluids that came out were greenish in colour and were really smelly. She gave her water to rinse her mouth and lay her back on the bed. She sat on the stool in the room and stared into space, she kept thinking of what to do.

She felt alone all of a sudden it was as though she was a single mother in her own husband’s house. ‘Is this even his house?’ she thought. She’s been paying the house rent , paying the children’s school fees and feeding the family.

Which woman at this time would endure all this for over nine years and not break down but yet she wakes up everyday hoping that things would get better. And didn’t even the bible says ‘ A hope that tarries makes the heart faint’, how long would she hope, how long would she pray. ‘Would things get better tomorrow or the next one or two years?’ Should she give in and compromise her faith and keep extramarital affairs and date Kola’?
