A New Dawn (Episode 11)

Episode 11

Two weeks after all that happened, the Solomons moved on with their lives. Things had gotten better for them even though the memories of Shola couldn’t be erased totally.

There was no day one thing or the other wouldn’t remind them of her. Tayo already was called for an interview in a multinational company in which he was in anticipation of their reply.

Hopefully he’d be employed. He’s a changed man already, Shola’s death took a toll on him that he had a change of heart because nobody knows when he or she would die.

Fiyin had already overcome her gloomy mood gradually after waiting for Shola to be back and she wasn’t .Then her mum had told her ‘they’d meet to part no more’, which she kept pondering on those word. She had been told they would meet when Jesus comes, she just couldn’t wait for Him to come so she could see her lovely sister.

She woke up in the midnight to the sound of sobs, it was her mum again, she was sad and resilient . She wouldn’t cry in your presence but go to a secret place to cry, she wouldn’t want you to see her weak. Fiyin sighed, she wish she could turn back the hands of time, but no that’s an impossible thing to do.

Dorothy sat at the table in her office, she was back at work after a month’s break, she sighed and tried to swallow the lump that had suddenly formed in her throat. She needed water.

As she was about to go to the proprietor’s office which was an adjoining one to get water Kola came in. ‘Babe, you need water?’ he asked. She looked at him, scrutinizing him and then collected the bottle of water he brought, she drank to her fill and then dropped the almost empty bottle on her desk.

She turned around and asked ‘how did you know? ‘The HolySpirit told me I guess’ kola said shrugging his shoulder. ‘Eh eh, Kola ooo,you that just gave your life to Christ just a month and half ago already recognises the voice of the HolySpirit while some people who claim to be born again for several years can’t even recognise His voice, God is marvelous o, I am happy for you’.

And less I forget don’t call me babe again oh, don’t allow my husband hear you oh, oremi when will you marry sef, you’re getting old already oh, see all these white beards coming out already’ said Dorothy playfully as she tried to touch his beards.

Kola rolled his eyes, he said whenever God says and that he thinks he has found a lady, he met her recently. ‘Pray about it and bring the lady to me I will help you examine her’.’Of course I will Mrs Examiner, you’re a rolemodel to many and I’d like any lady I marry to emulate you, and I just hope she won’t be jealous because you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me’ replied Kola.

They spoke about other things and work related things too. He promise to drop her at home and she said he would have to wait for her because of the extra lesson she takes. He nodded and left.

Dorothy sat in the room tapping her feet to the songs that were coming out from the radio. She absent mindedly reminisces on the recent occurrences of her life.

The sparks of love were beginning to reignite between her and her husband. She was happy he had become a changed man. Who would have thought the years of toil, turmoil and tears would come to an end. He now works in a multinational company, they now communicate better.

She was even surprised when he bought her a shoe and said he imagined her legs in them. What more could she ask for, he even tried to make a bond with Fiyin but she wouldn’t budge. It is a though she blames him for her sister’s death but she knows it will take some time for her to ease towards him.

Her thought got drifted when the sound that came from the radio was kind of on a slower beat, she stopped the feet tapping and began to feel sad, there was no time she heard the song you wouldn’t have a tear drop.

This time around it reminded her of her daughter. She sang along ‘ijoba orun lere o ni igbagbo oooo’ as she sang she wept, she wept so much that she didn’t notice her husband had come back from work. Her daughter wasn’t back from school because she was writing her final exams. Her husband rubbed her back and began to talk to her just to calm her down. She stopped crying and stared into space.

‘Why didn’t you tell me she was going to die?’ Why?, she thought. ‘The righteous is taken away from the evil to come’ Isaiah 57:1 was the scripture that came to her mind. But my daughter was young she was young and sweet. She followed your statutes and always worshipped you.

Remember everything I went through Lord, I suffered,I suffered so much. All those nights I’d go on fast all because there was nothing to eat and my husband didn’t even care. All those days I would go on three days vigils praying unto you so you could bring back joy and peace into our home. Are you saying it was because of Shola all these things happened? Does Shola have to go so that my family would be restored? Was that your plan father? I loved you father, I served you with all my heart, will you please bring back my joy for me. She is my joy father, she is.
