Fiyin and her sister Shola sat reading their books as they heard the door of their one room apartment open they both looked up from their book and Shola rushed to hug their mum and get the bag she was holding. ‘How are you my girls’ said Dorothy, ‘we are fine mum’ answered Fiyin. She asked about their mum’s work and she replied back with a fine thank you. ‘I hope you guys have eaten and washed the plates’ their mum asked, ‘yes we have mum and we are reading for our exams too’ Shola answered.
Shola is a Very smart child one would rather say too smart for her age, she is a girl of 12years while her sister Fiyin is fifteen. They are both in Jss3 and SSS3 respectively. Shola is like the apple of her parents eyes cause she always got what she wanted and even with this they do chastise her when needed. She is a very good girl and has a lot of knowledge which is far beyond her age.
‘Mum I read my bible in school today and guess what my memory verse is?’asked Shola. ‘What is it oooo’ her mum enquired, ‘Romans 8:28, it says All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose’, her mum completed it with her. ‘Mum you know it?’, ‘yes I do my dear’ said her mum. ‘Everything will work together for us mum because we love God and we always do what he says in His word’. ‘Mum, since we Love God then why hasn’t daddy gotten a job all this while even despite our prayers and fasting, and why is Dad always bittered? asked Shola. Fiyin answered her by saying because he said all things work together meaning be it bad, good, ugly even worse things, all these things work hand in hand for our good. There’s this bible passage mum used as our morning devotion that day I think its in 1st Corinthians 10:13 it says he won’t give us what is too much for us to handle.
So all these things we are facing and Dad not having a job,him been bittered,he knows we can handle it and he won’t just leave us to handle it alone he will stay with us through it all and we will overcome. ‘Wow, God is faithful oh’ said Shola.
Dorothy sat on the bed and marvelled at how vast the knowledge of her daughters were and the facts that they were rooted in God. Didn’t the bible say train up your child in the way he should go and when he grows he will never depart from it. She felt grateful at the kind of godly kids God gave her and how much of a faith they had in God that this their trying times will end very soon. She hopes deeply it will end soon.
Dorothy left her kids in the room and went to the back yard of the house to wash their. Most times its her kids that do wash the clothes but because their exams had started she had to reduce the chores for them so they could have more time to read. Shola and Fiyin had already fetched water into the basin for her so she started to wash. She continued her washing and noticed a presence before her, it was her husband , she greeted him as he walked past her and didn’t answer.
She pondered on what had caused the resentment since they hadn’t even seen each other since she left for work in the morning , God help her before she lose her mind. ‘ Woman so you have become so big in this house that I will have to be washing my own clothes my self abi?’ shouted Mr Solomon as he stood in front of his wife who sat on a stool washing. ‘As you can see those ones you brought out are all white, I decided to soak it overnight and wash tomorrow’ said Dorothy. ‘You will have to wash it today, that is what I want and that’s final’ Mr Solomon said, hissed dumped the clothes in her front and left.

What would you do if you were in Dorothy’s shoes?
Will you react to what your husband did? And for the fact that he doesn’t even provide the basics for the family.
Just as the kid had noticed their father bitterness due to his lack of getting a job, I won’t be surprise as a woman who has the fear of God and as I’ve known his anger and frustration is due to what he’s passing through. We’ll take the cloth go to him try to console and give him more hope and most of it all, tell him about the faith of his kids to encourage him more for their kids also believed God will do it “it’s just a matter of time, dear”, I’ll say.
Hmmm…that’s what a good woman would do because most men hate to be handicapped by life’s issues
What an interesting story
Thank you sir…
I think the best thing is for Dorothy to wash the clothes to avoid quarell. I hope Mr Solomon finds another job soon
I hope he does too…
The best thing is for Dorothy not to reply to me Solomon word rather she should support her husband with prayer , Mr Solomon is frustrated it’s only God that can touch his heart and provide good job for him.
Yes…I pray so too
The best thing is for Dorothy not to reply to mr Solomon word rather she should support her husband with prayer , Mr Solomon is frustrated it’s only God that can touch his heart and provide good job for him.
Permit me please to run wild with my thoughts here…
There’s a contrast in depths of spirituality between Mr Solomon and the rest of the household… As much as I understand what Mr Solomon is supposedly going through, venting his bitterness in such manner gives me the impression that, he’s not as deeply rooted in the WORD as the rest of the family…
By this, I can safely assume Dorothy is the spiritual pillar of the house…
On that note, she needs to exercise that spiritual authority and speak over her husband in the place of prayer, because it seems to me already that Mr Solomon may not even be satiated with Dorothy just doing as he desires…
Dorothy needs to help him find solace and anchor in the Lord lest his bitterness and frustrations grows wild as an untamable beast devouring everyone at home…
It is beyond just washing the cloths to me…
Hmmm…this is a deep one… I love the way you dissect and explain it… Dorothy is the spiritual pillar which should not be so…Let’s see how the story turns out
I would wash the clothes to avoid quarrel, support him in prayers and encourage him in ways I can.
Thank you ma..that’s what a good woman would do
