A New Dawn (Episode 2)

Episode 2

He had warned her not to get pregnant after she was delivered of Fiyin. The doctor had said her womb wasn’t strong enough to carry another baby but despite her careful application of her pill and other birth control methods, she got pregnant. He started resenting her the moment she got pregnant.

They weren’t always poor, they weren’t rich either. They were okay and perfectly happy together. They would pray and share the word together, go out together to different place. They felt fulfilled. The moment her pregnancy started growing she started having a lot of issues that she had to stay in the hospital for some months.

During those times, he would take permission from work to go check his wife. He spent a lot of money on her till she was delivered of their baby. The very day she was in labour was the day he was sacked all because he forgot about a presentation he was meant to given at their company’s headquarters. He forgot totally, all what was on his mind was his wife and baby.

And ever since then everything changed, they moved from their three bedroom flat to a face me I slap you house. A whole him who was a mentor and role model to others. Everything went down the drain.
He continued his eating and thought on the solutions he had to find to escape this joblessness.

The only thing he does everyday was to sit in his friend’s shop and talk about a way forward. He’s been doing that for some years now but no result of it. He wished he had listened to Lanre who was his other friend,to start doing some menial jobs at least that would mean him contributing little to his family.

He had lost himself he thought, his self esteem were gone, he could not even go boldly for an interview. Where’s the cloth to even wear. His train of thoughts were cut short by the sound of his phone. He picked it and replied the person on the line ‘My guy, I dey come naa, ok I don hear’. He ended the call and covered the plate he was eating from. He left the house and locked the door.

‘Dorothy, how are you today’ said Mr Ajenifuja to Mrs Solomon whose first name is Dorothy. She replied him with a nod and continued her work at her desk. She wished he would stop pestering her ,she is a married woman and a Christian at that so she can’t commit adultery.

Mr Ajenifuja is one of the senior teachers in the school, He is quite young and also a very jovial person. Almost all the female single teachers in the school had their eyes on him because he is very handsome, dark and tall. Just the way most girls want it. They would always change their walking step and over paint their faces most times so that he would notice them. But it seems their charm wasn’t working because he only had eyes for one person which is Mrs Solomon.

He would always go to her office to check on her and sometimes buy her lunch. At first Dorothy thought it was just a friendly gesture or rather his nature because she had seen him buy lunch for a student before. He made his intentions known the day he brought flowers to her office on a so called Valentine’s day and poured out his heart on how much he loves her.

She wasn’t flattered at all, the rate at which her heart was beating one would think she just heard a bad news. She almost fainted, she actually did blanked out if not for the sound of her phone ringing which jolted her back to life. In her thoughts at first she kept wondering what he saw in her, after two kids? She wasn’t attractive anymore neither was she looking appealing to herself nor the opposite sex.

She told him outrightly she wasn’t interested and that she was married and wouldn’t want to indulge in adultery. It was a sin to her body and to her God.
‘I only came to check up on you, hope you’re fine?’ said Mr Ajenifuja which brought her out of her reverie.

She mouthed a thank you to him and he left. Mr Ajenifuja thought she had a lot on her mind as he left, he suddenly got attracted to her the day he unexpectedly caught her crying in the staffs toilet.

He had noticed her once or twice and thought at how pretty she looked, but he did dissuade such thought because she’s married. Through it all he fell for her and thought she needed some help and she’d look like someone who’s going through a lot.

He wasn’t one who’d date a married woman, he’s principled and cultured but Dorothy got hold of his heart without her knowing. Her pretty face, innocent look, her carriage coupled with the fact that she was hardworking and godly captivated him the more. He would help her unravel whatever it is she’s going through. He would be a shoulder she can lean on in times of trouble. He is going to be that friend she can turn to at anytime.

After work Dorothy takes some kids in the extra lessons and she gets home by 5pm sometimes 6pm if the traffic is not much.

On this very day she left work early because the kids she teaches were through with their exams so there was not much to teach. She left the school compound and walked down the street leading to the man road where she will take a bus home. As she stood waiting for a bus, a car stopped at her front and honked. She moved back a bit thinking the car wanted to park at the spot she stood.

The car honked again and she bent to look at who it was which turned out to be Mr Ajenifuja. He wind down the glass of his car and called out to her telling her to hop in. ‘No thank you’, she said, ‘Are we going to start this on the road, I am only trying to help you’ ,Mr Ajenifuja said.

She decided to enter the car because it seems the weather has changed and it was about to rain. ‘If it were not that it seems the rain is about to fall I won’t enter’ said Dorothy. He looked at her and smiled, she just do amaze him at all times. ‘So you’re going home?’ asked Ajenifuja, ‘ of course I am’, replied Dorothy. He spoke to her on how she could come to him if she needed any help and how much he liked her. She told him she needed no help and she loves her husband so much. She alighted from his car and thanked him as she walked in to the building where she lived.

  1. I think she may end up falling for um if her husband dsnt stop pushing her away. But if she stays true with Gods help she will be fine..

  2. It’s possible she falls in love with him Sha..Women are moved by what they hear and Ajenifuja is definitely doing that on one hand..while her husband on the other hand is not even acknowledging her existence

  3. She’s not supposed to, but I’m certain she will. That way, the story gets interesting. And Mr. Solomon will get a new job, I think.

  4. It is in two ways,if Mrs Solomon can stand on her words she wouldn’t fall for Mr Ajenifuja although it very possible Mrs Solomon gets close to it and Mr Solomon will find a new job.
