Episode 4
She shook her head as she was at the brim of shedding tears,God forbid her being a subject of mockery in the presence of her cotenants.
How can this man be heartless, when did she become a slave in her own house, she was really vexed that she absent mindedly didn’t know tears were crawling down her face. Her lips and hands were shaking, she didn’t hear when her next room neighbor called out to her.
Iyawo who was the next door neighbor asked if she was okay and she nodded, it was obvious she wasn’t but Iyawo left and went about her business.
Iyawo as fondly called by everyone in the compound was a very nice and good lady. They called her Iyawo because she was newly wedded and has no child yet. Dorothy had thought on how newly wedded couples would move to a face me I slap you to begin their journey.
She would never do that, God forbid the environment could suck the love between couples she thought. She reprimanded herself and shut the thoughts that were about to be brewing the more in her heart.
Dorothy made up her mind not to wash the clothes that day, she would go and explain to her husband. She was through washing and called out to her children to come out and dry the clothes on the line. They came out to carry the bucket of clothes.
As Dorothy sat on the stool to wash the rags they use in their room for cleaning the floor she saw her husband come out and he came directly to her. ‘I knew you wouldn’t wash those clothes, why are you so stubborn?’ said Mr Solomon. ‘Tayo, I don’t want any fight okay,I already promise to wash it tomorrow and its dark already how am I supposed to see what I am washing’ argued Dorothy.
As though like a flash of light her husband picked up the bowl of soapy water she was washing from and poured it on her.
She was shocked and couldn’t utter a word. ‘Tayo,Tayo, what have I done to deserve this’ she said weepingly. ‘It is what a disobedient woman like you deserve’ Tayo said. Iyawo who sat at the backyard and aware of the fight between the couples stood up and was pacifying Dorothy. ‘Mummy Fiyin it is alright, sorry’. Tayo hissed and walked out on them.
Iyawo got water and helped clean Dorothy up. ‘How could your husband do this to you, this is uncalled for, don’t worry everything will be fine’. Iyawo took her to her room and was trying to calm her down as she continued to weep. She was fed up, ‘was it my fault he didn’t have a job’?
He had resentment towards her she knew. Was this the same man she fell in love with years ago, she doubted it. He has changed totally to a different person. Tayo that back then he wouldn’t even allow a fly touch her now he has turned to something evil.
Where was the love they started with, where were the promises he made to her at the altar, where was her best friend, gist partner and prayer partner. She couldn’t even remember when last they prayed together as a family. If it was really the job that was hurting him, she had helped him submit his C.V for so many vacancies but he had refused to go for the interview anytime he finds out she was the one who helped him.
She knew every normal man will never like his wife been the breadwinner of his family but yet why does he not look for a job or accept her help. What has she done to deserve such treatment from him, she’s been the one feeding, cleaning, paying the house rent and school fees of their kids for the past ten years.
She is more or less a single mother because he doesn’t even care about any development that occurs in the home. She has been praying to the lord to change him but it seems nothing was happening. She vowed to keep her marriage issues from third parties because the day she didn’t she got the beating of her life which landed her in the hospital.
